Project description
Your essay should be at least 2 pages in length and no longer than 4 pages. You should use 12pt, double-spaced Times New Roman font and 1 margins.
So far this semester, we have looked at a number of sequences from both films and television shows and analyzed how they create meaning through the use of formal techniques. In this assignment, you are to create your own visual analysis of a film. Later in the semester, you will be asked to analyze an entire film, but for now, you are to select a single sequence from one of the following films:
Citizen Kane Grizzly Man Manhattan Rear Window
You are then to identify the dominant visual/formal/aesthetic strategy and explain how it operates within the sequence. Examples of the formal element may include aspects of the mise-en-scene (e.g. setting, costumes, lighting, etc.) or cinematography (e.g. camera angle, camera distance, lenses, camera movement). Finally, you are to analyze how this formal choice creates meaning within the sequence. Do the formal elements of the sequence contribute to character development? To the plot? Do they impact the viewers response or interpretation to the sequence in any way?
Additional Information
o You should note  the counter time of the sequence you are analyzing either in the title or
the text of your essay. If you feel it would be helpful, you can also include a screen shot
on a separate page.
