Culture
The term culture means different things to different people. A definition of culture that encompasses its multifaceted nature is “a process arising out of shared ethnicity, religion, beliefs, language, knowledge, values, meanings and rules, which enable members of a given society to communicate, live, work, anticipate and interpret each other’s behaviour and motives” Culture shapes how people interpret the world and influences all aspects of their lives.
Cultures are not homogenous, as subcultures develop within cultural groups. A subculture reflects a group of people who share a subset of attitudes, values, meanings and norms. In large cities, people who live in the inner city are likely to see the world differently from people who live in the suburbs or in regional, rural and remote settings. For example, although residents of Adelaide and Sydney live in capital cities, they experience a different work pace and life pressures, and have different perspectives on a range of subjects. Although all Australians share some aspects of Australian culture, they are also influenced by the various groups and subgroups to which they belong
